A|State - Session 1 - An Early Corner Discription

An Early Corner Discription

The cross roads on the groups corner is not a road but a canal crossing. The Surging Run is fed by a lesser canal on either side and by a broken water conduit which floods off the Greater Dung snaking into the Surging Run and for a brief moment making it almost clean.  Almost that is until it reaches the inflow from the Under Dung a canal that flows through The Wreak (a more modern name for the Lesser Dung) and The Turd Port where great excrement container vessels lay up for repairs at Bates Shipwrights.  The ships are also turned around here using two tugs, Titch and Tiny.  Once turned they are refilled with fuel to be shipped back down the canals.

The Great Crap Works house a series of huge methane tanks flanked by a processing plant to convert the methane into a stable fuel. Huge pipes lead in and out of the plant carrying local refuge and sewage into the factory and refined fuel out. The Stink Heap ferments beyond this fed by great collection vehicles driving down Tip Road to drop food remains in honour, at its base. An alter of Shit.

A second port area takes more food remains plus effluence from the great container vessels travelling up from The Serpentine and beyond. Stink Heap is over run with the worst and poorest of humanity like rats pulling the best from the waste before it can be crushed and fed into the great unground tanks that lay to produce the methane and run the ever present danger of a Burster. To safe guard the tanks treasure, feed-off funnels using great fans suck out any fire bursting it from chimneys that dot the local housing estate that was built over the top but sometimes they can backdraft straight into the tip area.  Two unions fight over this industry W.A.S.T.E. Workers Association of Treatment Engineers and T.U.R.D. the Trade Union of Rectal Discharge.

Right on the corner of the canal formation sits the age old pub, The Crappy where the player characters hang out. Along Cannery Row stretch a series of factories, repair shops and warehouses supporting the main industry and smaller sites for the workers such as Full Load (the gym) and The Floater, home site of the Black Fang Trolls, a local gang.

Behind this The Big Rat or for public consumption The Crapybara Produce Farm Facility run by the Big Meat Trust is a huge underground farming facility and the second most important employer. It is fronted by the huge Meat Taxi Loaders.  Fresh meat is very valuable in The City and huge armoured refrigerator transports are used to ferry it to its distribution points which tend to be high up in the richer areas. The loader is a huge heliport on top of the facility. Off cuts and lesser meats are shipped out via conveyers to the local canary factories surrounding The Big Rat.

Rat Run leads down to Steel Bridge which crosses the Edge Way Canal under the towers of the Shinning Light and the Observances of the Holy Telescope. The Edge Way current leads into the Harbour Basin and to the Surging Run and is relatively clean as up canal beyond the offices of The Sheet, a local publishing House (home of "Effluent Community Post" and "Meat Meet" the two industry papers along with a couple of lesser guild sheets plus of course "The Surging Run Gazette") is the more hospitable part of the Burgh with a few large spawling estates built into the sides of The Cut where the Edge Way runs down out of Sky Hights, the next burgh edgeward.

On the Surging Run's basinward side looms The Church of the Mortal God, the oldest and largest non-industrial building in the area.  It sits on the corner of the Surging Run and the Under Dung in an expensive commercial spot.  The Mortal God is well known for its factious following.  Here the local squalor of the majority of locals makes the Unfair Universe faction most populous but the power still held by the few is in the Man's Folly faction supported by the rich Trust owners.  Basinward supports most of the residential areas, not the worst for they extend around The Great Crap Works but no less under valued and poor. Here two gangs vie for power, around the Twin Dungs and including the housing projects basinward of the road split by Poo Bridge are the Electric Mammoth Squad.  Between them and the Surging Run are the Disciples. This road and Drop Street running alongside The Under Construction canal (not a canal but a free flowing breach in a fresh'ish water duct) are considered no-mans land between the gangs allowing the Dungside estates access to Lovers Leap Lock, a foot bridge and the only bridge over the Surging Run linking to the main commercial district of Canary Row. Those that work the methane tanks or the harbour catch ferries from Poo Bridge pier.

The interminable stink of the areas prosperity is dulled somewhat by the constant hazy misty drizzle which marks good weather and the torrential downpours which mark normalcy.  The Under Construction is a place fought over by all three gangs who would like to control the water supply and while each has failed to take over they have between them stopped anyone else moving in on what could be a lucrative venture, I mean pour water, wow worth a bomb. Someone's going to move in and make a mint one day.

Things to be thinking about for next time or if you have time stick them in the comments and I'll start to add them in:

Contacts. Who is your priest, where do you get supplies/infomation, Your contacts list is limited to 10. These are the people that you know and can rely on for something.
Do you have family and where do they live (invent a road/building and locate it on the map).  What is your relations with them, should any be a contact?
Where do you live?

Name a few regulars down the Crappy.

Give each a quirk and a three word summary.

Most important one.  At the moment you are just people who use The Crappy and chat, why? and why are you going to act together to resolve the upcoming situations and act to protect the corner.  What's your corner, and your group going to be known as. The game term is Troublemakers! what's yours?
